Langenstein near Riveris

Above Riveris, on the western side of the valley, is a tall quartzite rock known as the "Langenstein". Vertical and diagonal cracks divide it into several sections, which somehow form a whole.

Centuries ago, the rock was struck by lightning during a storm. One part fell away from the block and toppled down the slope, where it still lies even today. The Langenstein can be accessed by following a forest track, which starts at a car park south of Morscheid and continues southwards towards the Riveristal dam (Riveristalsperre).
